Friends…

Had a good web chat with a dear friend today. She always lifts my spirits.  Nothing like the power of connecting with someone who understands you, appreciates you and challenges you to “do more” and “be more”. Never underestimate the value of a good friendship. So here’s to friendship and the beauty of it all…

Three little birds, sat on my window.
And they told me I don’t need to worry.
Summer came like cinnamon
So sweet,
Little girls double-dutch on the concrete.

Maybe sometimes, we’ve got it wrong, but it’s alright
The more things seem to change, the more they stay the same
Oh, don’t you hesitate.

Girl, put your records on, tell me your favourite song
You go ahead, let your hair down
Sapphire and faded jeans, I hope you get your dreams,
Just go ahead, let your hair down.

You’re gonna find yourself somewhere, somehow.

Blue as the sky, sunburnt and lonely,
Sipping tea in a bar by the roadside,
(just relax, just relax)
Don’t you let those other boys fool you,
Got to love that afro hair do.

Maybe sometimes, we feel afraid, but it’s alright
The more you stay the same, the more they seem to change.
Don’t you think it’s strange?

Girl, put your records on, tell me your favourite song
You go ahead, let your hair down
Sapphire and faded jeans, I hope you get your dreams,
Just go ahead, let your hair down.

You’re gonna find yourself somewhere, somehow.

‘Twas more than I could take, pity for pity’s sake
Some nights kept me awake, I thought that I was stronger
When you gonna realise, that you don’t even have to try any longer?
Do what you want to.

Girl, put your records on, tell me your favourite song
You go ahead, let your hair down
Sapphire and faded jeans, I hope you get your dreams,
Just go ahead, let your hair down.

Oh, you’re gonna find yourself somewhere, somehow

…And I Fell in Love

In my business I strive every day to exceed my clients expectations. Well I can honestly say I know how that feels because someone just exceeded mine. About a month ago I sent a tweet out to my fellow colleagues and friends asking them to share any recommendations they had for a good letterpress company. I’ve been working to update my brand and really liked the look and feel of letterpress for business cards and stationary. A few tweets later, the name Studio Z Mendocino came across my screen.

I decided to check Studio Z’s website  and  blog to see some of their work. It was definitely what I’d been looking for. After having several great conservations with Zida, the studio owner and designer, I knew she understood my brand and the direction to grow it. We decided to start with my business cards since I’d be heading out for a couple important events (more on that soon).

I’ve been excited to see the finished product since I signed off on the proof. Last Thursday, my friendly FedEx delivery man, drop a bit of happiness off to me. I saw Studio Z on the box label and began to rip into the package. I caught a glimpse of my new business cards…..and I fell in LOVE!!

From London…with Love

I woke up today missing Europe, especially London and Paris. Just not for the beauty of it but due to the creativity that comes from such great architecture and atmosphere. With the current craziness of my schedule (and I’m loving it!!), I’ll have to wait until next year to make it back across the pond. So interested of feeling bummed I decided to pull out some of my favorite images and reminisce.

Ok, secret about me. I love photographing historical locations especially church.

My Friends are So Cool….

Photographers love to test new concepts, ideas and forms of creative expression. For me, this means testing it out on my friends. From new equipment to exploring natural lighting techniques, my friends have always been the greatest sports when it comes to me and my big camera. They laugh, smile, grin and bare. All because they believe in me, trust my vision and want to see me succeed.

A while back I shared a post about my trip to Vegas. While seeing the city, I decided to take a few candid shots of my friends. It was a great excuse to test out my new lens in natural light. The gang was all in and they didn’t even complain. Good friends are hard to find but this inner circle is totally the real deal. They nurture, listen, and support. When it comes to good friends, God has blessed me over and over again. They are the coolest friends a girl could ever ask for and they photograph really well too. See for yourself.

Location: Las Vegas, NV

Mike – The thoughtful thinker of the group. He has a heart of gold. And my dog Chyna absolutely adores him.

Megan – She’s creative, an awesome photographer (check her out), fun to be around and a true believer in God’s promise. Having her as a friend has been a true blessing.

The three amigos. How can describe this bond we have with one another. We laugh together, cry together and encourage each other. Oh and we have lots of FUN!

Bridal:: A Beautiful Bride to Match A Beautiful Garden

Now that they’ve said “I Do”, I can finally share the lovely images from Nicole’s bridal session taken at the beautiful Tangier Bicentennial Gardens in Greensboro, NC. This was a fun shoot. Not only because the bride was so much fun to work with but my mom decided to join us and serve as my assistant on the shoot. It was so much to share this session with her. And the location was just beautiful. I’m a huge fan of scenic gardens especially those that capture the true essence of the shoot. The Tangier Bicentennial Gardens did just that  - it made the day fun, laid back and colorful.

Here are a few of my favorites from the session. I especially love the statues around the garden. Nothing like a “stand-in” groom for the day.

Culture Club and I Agree On One Thing…

As I sat down today reviewing my calendar, I realized that summer is almost over and I haven’t  had a real vacation. Where has the time gone? Boy George and Culture Club  said it best…’Time , oh give me time.” Summer is moving by too fast and I’m trying hard to enjoy it all. So here’s to more time for sun, fun and relaxation – TIME.

Daydreaming:: Taking a Little Break to Remember Why…

Do you ever want to take a break from it all? All the emails, phone calls, text messages. Sometime I feel too connected to the world around me that I need to step back and take a little break. Over the last few weeks, I’ve been blessed with some amazing opportunities. (More on that in a future post.) And with each new opportunity comes an amazing amount of work to make it all flow together. Every now and then I take a little break and daydream. I think about how this journey started. How I got this “jones” for photography and why I love it so much. Every now and then, I think of some of the great image makers who came before me – how they made me fall in love with photography…and I fall…all over again. Here’s to the artists that made me feel what a single image represents – a moment in time, a memory, a dream, a culture, a statement, a promise….

First Row: Dorothea Lange, Robert Frank, Henri Cartier-Bresson; Second Row: Gordon Parks, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Joyce Tenneson; Third Row: Gordon Parks, Dorothea Lange, James VanDerZee; Fourth Row: James VanDerZee, Artist Unknown, Prentice H. Polk

E-Session | Treana & Alton Out for a Spin

I love this couple. When we started planning the e-session for Treana and Alton, I asked the happy couple what they enjoy doing together and what interests they share. Treana, with excitement in her voice said “cars” – more specifically “luxury sports cars”. So I put my detective cap on and started searching for a fun location that would incorporate their love for car and each other. After a few calls with a good friend and a trip out to a local dealership, we found the perfect car for their session. A special thanks goes out to the team at Maserati of Raleigh and my dear friend Rhodney Hunt. They really made it a special day for these two lovebirds.

Here are some of my favorites from the first part of the day.

After our car shoot, we decided to head over to Triangle Town Center for a few boardwalk shots. It was a hot day but these two were the best – ready for anything.
